Christiana Ioannou, Christos Papastergiou
draftworks!architects was founded by Christiana Ioannou and Christos Papastergiou and operates among Athens, Nicosia and London. Through various forms of practice and research the studio attempts to gear consistency, appropriateness and speculation in architectural design. Such forms of operation include competitions, projects with a specific context and site, as well as exhibitions or speculative projects, which link architectural practice with a distinct, more imaginative landscape. The drawing and the model are such means of architectural expression, which beyond conveying concepts, they also act as complete aesthetic entities.
draftworks!architects has been awarded prizes in various local and international competitions: Among them the recent 1st prize and the commission to build the Center for Environmental Information in the salt lake of Larnaca, Cyprus. Their project ‘New Zidonians’ has been awarded an Honorable Mention in the MIT ‘Just Jerusalem competition’ and the project ‘Paper Machines and the Roofless Garden’ has been exhibited in the 11th Venice Biennale in 2008 as a part of the Cyprus Pavilion.
BIOGS:
Christiana Ioannou was born in 1978 in Nicosia, Cyprus. She has received her Diploma in Architecture and MSc in Architectural Theory from the School of Architecture, NTUA, where she also taught design and visual arts. She has participated in architectural exhibitions and publications (Athens, Cyprus, Helsinki, Venice, London) and has been awarded prizes in joint international design competition entries with Christos Papastergiou. She is currently undertaking the PhD Architectural Design at the Bartlett School of Architecture, UCL with a scholarship from the Hellenic Republic (IKY).
Christos Papastergiou was born in 1976 in Athens, Greece. He holds a diploma in Architecture and an MSc in interdisciplinary Theory of Space from the School of Architecture, NTUA. A scholarship recipient from the Hellenic Republic (IKY), he is currently a candidate in the PhD Architectural Design at the Bartlett School of Architecture. Christos practices architecture with Christiana Ioannou. He has received awards in a number of architectural competitions and his work has been exhibited in Greece, Cyprus, Brussels, London and the Venice Biennale.
