We chose the genre “telanovela” to work with for this competition because we were looking for a medium with which we could reach a lot of different people. So we got to television media. After we did some research we found out how huge the power behind it really is. There are a lot of past examples of series, soap operas and telenovelas that let people worldwide forget reality and enter the world of fiction. Exactly this power we want to use to affect the Israeli and Palestinian way of live.
With the influence and success of this genre of the television industry we want to address as many people as possible in the conflict area in and around Jerusalem.
We really see a chance to bring a vision for Jerusalem in people’s minds with nothing more than a simple but pathetic television show.
Our telenovela “The Bonds of Love” is simple and shallow-brained entertainment. Everyone can identify with it and feel spoken to. But the viewer should not get the feeling of an imposed opinion, this should happen subconsciously – packed into an idyllic story.
