Presented in the form of excerpts from Twenty Sixteen: A Novel of America and the World and accompanying Discussion Guide (both greatly abridged), this submission envisions changes in the municipal government of Jerusalem and in world governance. Other proposed social practices and community activities in Jerusalem include regular town meetings, mediation clinics and classes in communication and conflict resolution.
It describes a world in which the use of mediation and conflict resolution skills to resolve disputes is growing. An agreement between Israeli and Palestinian officials in 2016 sets the stage for a Jerusalem in 2050 where, at all levels of city life, people talk to each other, settle disputes peacefully and live in an environment free from discrimination. Jerusalem will thus become a model for how former enemies can live together in peace.
The Discussion Guide enables readers around the world to begin today such a process of talking to each other about important issues.
