Water is the most abundant resource on the planet, yet in Jerusalem it is quickly becoming sparse as renewable water sources are currently being overexploited. As the water shortage intensifies the probability of discord does too, in turn hampering Jerusalem's prospective industry. Without water, it is impossible to build up East Jerusalem's industry. Furthermore, unequal access and use of water between East and West Jerusalem contributes to economic inequity. A Jerusalem that is already divided culturally, linguistically, and religiously will never become just unless a move towards economic equity takes place through equitable access to water.
Historical background and demographic analysis shows the divide between East and West Jerusalem. Identifying the problem of water scarcity and inequity, we can see it is worst on the East side of the city. Several attempts have been made to address this water crisis; however they are coming up short of the goal to provide sufficient and equal amounts. A new solution is needed to supply Jerusalem with sufficient water for the entire city, including East and West. If done properly, water from the Mediterranean Sea can be used to address the problem.
