My vision of a just, peaceful and sustainable Jerusalem is of one that in 2050 has become the new symbol of peace for the whole world – not because politicians have found nice formulas of compromise concerning sovereignty, administration, people, living quarters, resources, traffic, and civil rights, but because something unheard of has happened, something nobody could have imagined: a solution has been found to the conflict of ownership over the Temple Mount / Haram ash-Sharif in the heart of the city – and in the heart of the followers of the three Abrahamic faiths.
The Muslims have been in possession of it, because the prophet Mohammed was raised from there to the Heavens, the Jews have claimed it because it is the site of their ancient Temples.
The conflict seemed impossible to solve, yet before 2050 both parties have agreed to share the place – not the space on the ground, which in 2050 is still as it was, a Muslim mosque, but they have shared the totality of the space, thereby creating a complex sanctuary for all three Abrahamic faiths: with the Muslim part on the ground, but with the space for a New Jewish Temple at the very spot prescribed by Halacha, on a platform high above the Dome of the Rock, and, suspended from the Jewish platform, the Christian part of the sanctuary – all in all one sanctuary but with clearly separated sections for the three faiths and their respective subgroups.
After this agreement was found by the leaders of the three faiths – all other problems were solved easily with the newly found empathy of the three for each other.
And with the finding of that solution, the whole world looks to Jerusalem as the city of peace.
